Homeland Security

This Web link is in response to the requests from some families in the Souderton Area School District who have expressed concern regarding our schools’ preparedness for response to biological, chemical, and radiological terrorism.

Although the United States, in general, may be put on High Alert Status (orange) when the need arises, there is no evidence indicating that Pennsylvania schools are targets for terrorism. Regardless, schools need to be prepared for the worst-case scenario.

The Souderton Area School District does have in place various Crisis Response Plans that are comprehensive and responsive to the range of crisis situations that could affect schools. Of course, the key principles of emergency preparedness are planning, teamwork, and practice. The Souderton Area School District continues to work directly with local emergency agencies, first responders, school-based security personnel, and law enforcement agencies to prepare for any and all contingencies.

School and parent communication also plays a vital role in a crisis situation. In the event of any need to establish immediate communication with our students’ families, the Souderton Area School District will utilize the following methods of communication:

  • ™KYW Radio AM 1060
  • ™WNPV Radio AM 1440
  • ™Souderton Area School District Web site – www.soudertonsd.org
  • 1-800 command center (to be announced at that time)
  • Souderton Area School District cable channel 78 (SATV)

Also, to assist families in this process, we have linked to valuable information found on the American Red Cross Web site, http://www.redcross-philly.org/safety, such as:
