INTRODUCTION TO COMPUTERS (TWO IDENTICAL COURSES OFFERED)

This user-friendly course is designed for the person with little or no computer knowledge. Learn the basic computer skills you need to know in order to operate a computer at home, to enhance job performance, or re-enter the work force. You need very little knowledge of a computer to do well in this class. We will discuss basic computer hardware and software, including a brief introduction to using Microsoft Word, and helpful functions such as creating files and folders, and copying and pasting. Please understand that the Internet and E-mail will be covered in a separate course (see below).

This course will cover the basics of using the Internet for information, education, communication, and entertainment. Start from the very beginning and discuss the best practices for searching and surfing. Topics will include: finding information, making purchases, sending e-mail, using social websites, and staying safe on the Internet by avoiding scams and ‘phishing’. A beginner proficiency and understanding of basic computer use is required for this class. If you are not comfortable using computers, please consider taking our Introduction to Computers course first to maximize your learning experience.

Explore the features of the newest version of Microsoft Office. Emphasis on Word and Excel, with basic PowerPoint, file creation and formatting, text selection, search and replace and information linking will be taught. For those with some basic computer skills. Students should bring a Flash Drive (available at office supply stores) if you want to copy files for practice at home.

Learn to use Microsoft PowerPoint. A user-friendly class designed for the person with little computer knowledge. Learn the basic features and templates that come with the program. Create a family photo album, a presentation for meetings or social events, personalized calendars, flyers, agendas, and much more. You will not believe how easy and fun this software is to use. Please purchase a flash drive and bring to class so that you can save your projects to print out at home.
