Weave a rectangular basket on a D shaped handle with a filled bottom, twined on the edges, and start/stop weaving on the sides, with a looped and braided border. The finishing touch is small dyed flowers and leaves on the sides. Material fee $17.00 payable in class to instructor. Students should bring sharp scissors, dishpan, clip type clothespins, tape measure or ruler and a pencil. A small awl is optional.

The art of knitting wool yarn into a project, then shrinking it in hot water is called felting. The result is a much smaller, tightly woven or “felted” item. In class you will knit a wool handbag, then use this process to create your finished bag. Class participants should know how to knit and purl, how to increase and decrease stitches, how to pick up stitches, have a knowledge of using circular knitting needles, as well as some simple hand sewing to complete your bag. Supply list will be sent before the start of class. Class will meet every other week in order to give students time to complete the knitting involved.

Want to learn to knit socks but afraid it might be too difficult? If you know how to do basic knit and purl stitches and can do a decrease stitch, you will be able to make socks in our new workshop. Currently sock knitting has become so popular that yarns have been designed especially to create interesting stripes and patterns for your socks. Learn to use double pointed needles, “turn the heel”, and do the Kitchener stitch to graft the toe stitches together. These same patterns can also be used for Christmas Stockings. Celebrate the first day of spring by painting a ceramic windowsill herb garden set--three mini-flower pots and an oval tray—perfect for planting your first seeds of the season. Your instructor will demonstrate various simple painting techniques to be used. In addition to painting the set, you will also make three garden markers with colored glass and glass paint.
