In this one-time workshop, we’ll show you how to make a one-of-a-kind fused glass jewelry set – a pendant, pair of earrings, and a ring.  Your instructor will explain how to cut glass and lay out your design working with stringers, noodles and specialty glass. Weave a rectangular basket on a D shaped handle with a filled bottom, twined on the edges, and start/stop weaving on the sides, with a looped and braided border. The finishing touch is small dyed flowers and leaves on the sides.  Material fee $17.00 payable in class to instructor.  Students should bring sharp scissors, dishpan, clip type clothespins, tape measure or ruler and a pencil.   A small awl is optional.

The art of knitting wool yarn into a project, then shrinking it in hot water is called felting.  The result is a much smaller, tightly woven or “felted” item.  In class you will knit a wool handbag, then use this process to create your finished bag.  Class participants should know how to knit and purl, how to increase and decrease stitches, how to pick up stitches, have a knowledge of using circular knitting needles, as well as some simple hand sewing to complete your bag. Supply list will be sent before the start of class.  Class will meet every other week in order to give students time to complete the knitting involved.

Want to learn to knit socks but afraid it might be too difficult?  If you know how to do basic knit and purl stitches and can do a decrease stitch, you will be able to make socks in our new workshop.  Currently sock knitting has become so popular that yarns have been designed especially to create interesting stripes and patterns for your socks.  Learn to use double pointed needles, “turn the heel”, and do the Kitchener stitch to graft the toe stitches together.  These same patterns can also be used for Christmas Stockings. Supply list will be provided.

If you know how to do simple knitting and purling, this class will help you expand your knowledge of new stitches such as basketweave, cable or mock cable stitches, seed and moss stitches, the popcorn stitch and much more.  Each week in class you will be shown how to do several new stitches and you will practice what you learn on small squares that can be used as a dishcloth, or pieced together for a scarf or small sampler afghan.   Direction reading and abbreviations will be discussed.   A supply list will be sent before class begins.

For students with painting experience who wish to paint outdoors at various different locations.  Instructor Joan Feiss will escort the group and instruct students in composition, color theory and how to capture the atmosphere and light for each medium used.  You may work in the medium of your choice and will be at liberty to choose your own palette.  Ongoing critiques will be given as students create their plein air paintings following in the “footsteps of the French plein air painters” (but painting the wonderful landscapes of this area).  Class will meet at the Franconia Elementary School parking lot on May 5th.
