2/17/2009: Learning to play chess at West Broad Elementary School
The Chess Club at West Broad Elementary School is made up of 4th and 5th grade students. The club teaches students many facets of the game including: how to set up the board, how the pieces and the pawns move, opening strategies, middle game strategies, end game strategies, and basic chess tactics.
Each meeting will include direct instructions, a review of previously learned information, mini-games to practice newly acquired information, and individual learning time when students may read chess books, use chess software, study chess cards to learn more about the game, or challenge others in the club to actual chess games.
This club will be held on Monday afternoons starting February 23rd to May 11th from 3:15-4:00p.m. and is made possible by a grant from the Souderton Area Education Foundation.
