2/20/2008: Beef Recall
As you have heard, the US Department of Agriculture (USDA) has issued a recall for beef products produced at the Hallmark/Westland Meat Packaging Co. of Chino, CA. This is a “Class Two” recall, which means there is only a remote probability of health concerns relating to the consumption of this beef.
The Souderton Area School District has been notified that some beef received by the district is subject to this recall. The Food Service Department immediately eliminated the use of any beef served by the Food Service Department in school cafeterias. All menu items will substitute turkey, chicken, fish, or pork, for beef until further notice. Some examples include: Turkey Burgers, or Spaghetti with Meat (turkey) Sauce, or Turkey Tacos.
Food Service Department Personnel will continue to check all beef products in our inventory and set aside those items until approval for disposal is received from the USDA. We expect that the school district will be compensated by the USDA for the lost beef products.
If you have any questions, please contact the District Administrative Offices at 215-723-6061 ext. 200.
