The Souderton Area High School spring musical, Footloose , will begin on April 15, at 7:30 p.m. with a "Gold Card Only" performance. There will be 7:30 p.m. performances on Thursday, April 16, Friday, April 17, and Saturday, April 18, with a 2:00 p.m. matinee performance on Sunday, April 19. The musical is based on the 1984 film, starring Kevin Bacon, a story of Ren McCormack a teenager who was raised in Chicago. McCormack moved to a small town where the town government banned dancing and rock music. Ren and his classmates wanted to have a senior prom with music and dancing. They needed to figure out a way to get around the law and Reverend Shaw Moore (played by John Lithgow), who made it his mission in life to keep the town free from dancing and rock music. The movie was loosely based on events that took place in the tiny, rural farming community of Elmore City, Oklahoma. Much of the film was filmed in Utah County, Utah.

Director Lori Maxwell said, "The show is very upbeat with a good message. It has great music and the students seem to be excited to be a part of it. We hope the community will support the students and come to see the show."

Approximately 91 students in grades 9 through 12 are participating in this rendition of Footloose .
