4/1/2010: Geography Bees held at Indian Valley Middle School
Students from Indian Valley Middle School took part in the 22nd annual National Geographic Geography Bee. Classroom Bees were held in social studies classes (grades 6-8) on January 4, 2010. A few days later these classroom winners took a paper and pencil test in the school library where the field of competition was narrowed down to ten finalists. The following week the ten finalists took part in Indian Valley's final competition to determine the school's champion. The ten finalists were: Lauren Harkins (grade 6), Hirsh Sisodia (grade 6), Grant Kester (grade 7), Matt Bakey (grade 7), Baylen Posner (grade 7), Spencer Burns (grade 7), Tyler Stayton (grade 8), Kevin Wood (grade 8), Genevieve Grossman (grade 8), and Justin Roszewich (grade 8).
After an intense competition staged in front of the entire 8th grade in the school auditorium, Hirsh Sisodia emerged as the school champion. Second place went to Spencer Burns and third place to Genevieve Grossman. “All students performed commendably, and we congratulate Hirsh Sisodia on his win,” commented Mrs. Rose Hill, social studies teacher who also acted as commentator at the final competition.
Hirsh's prize was a gold medal and certificate from the National Geographic Society in Washington D.C.
