7/30/2009: SAVE to be featured on NBC 10, August 7

Photograph of SAVE members The SASD Students Against Violating the Earth club will be featured in a “Green is Universal” segment on NBC 10 on Friday, August 7. Terry Ruggles interviewed students about their work involving the design and construction of a solar chimney model which can help cool a building without using any electricity. Although SAVE didn’t originate the design, their ultimate goal, according to advisor Ken Hamilton is to apply a simplified concept to a hospital in Tanzania, Africa. A trial run of the solar chimney concept is currently being incorporated into a building project in Tortola (in the British Virgin Isles) where investors support environmentally friendly methods. Tortola and Tanzania share similar climates. Building in Tortola will begin in 2009-2010. Construction in Tanzania will begin in 2010 once the government has given its final approval. The solar chimney design will be incorporated in the latter part of the project in approximately 2011.

The NBC 10 interview segment will be running on Friday, August 7. It will run during the morning newscast at approximately quarter to six and quarter to seven and then again during the five o'clock newscast, sometime during the last half hour. Don’t miss it!
