5/18/2007: Indian Valley Middle School Students Raise Funds for National Multiple Sclerosis Society
Students at Indian Valley Middle School participated in the National Multiple Sclerosis Society READaTHON raising $6763.75 by reading 725 books. Over 100 students participated in grades six and seven and obtained 477 sponsors. Ms. Thea Frey, sixth grade language arts teacher, coordinated the program.
As the top school reader, Max Heckler, from Mrs. Salanik's sixth grade class, read 35 books. Austin Wisser, from Mrs. Butler's sixth grade class, was the top fund raiser collecting $270. Erin Grimes, from Mrs. Radcliff's seventh grade class, obtained the most sponsors with 85. Each student earned a trophy for their accomplishment.
The READaTHON is the single most important fundraiser of the National Multiple Sclerosis Society. The MS Society relies on monies generated by the program to fund medical research grants and client programs. Over 11,000 local residents are coping with multiple sclerosis.
