9/5/2006: SASD mourns the loss of a dedicated volunteer

The faculty and staff of Souderton Area School District are saddened at the news that Thomas V. Chipley lost his life on Saturday, September 2. He drowned in Stover Park, adjacent to Indian Crest, during the flooding on Saturday afternoon, while trying to save his dog from the floodwaters.

Mr. Chipley was a member of the Souderton Area Education Foundation Board. He was very active as a board member, serving on a number of subcommittees and participating in Foundation activities.

"We are terribly shocked to learn of Mr. Chipley's death," said Dr. Charles Amuso, Superintendent of Schools. "We extend our sympathy and prayers to his wife and son during this tragic time."

Dr. John M. Eells, Supervisor of Special Services, and Executive Director of the Foundation said, "Tom was an active and vital member of the Souderton Area Education Foundation Board of Directors since the 2004-2005 school year. He served on several committees and subcommittees, helped with annual Dinner Dance, and this year, with the first golf outing. His suggestions for fund raising activities helped us all to grow in the work we are trying to do. We wouldn't be where we are today without his contributions."
