General Fund Budget Approved for 2009-10 School Year
The Souderton Area Board of School Directors approved the district's General Fund budget for the 2009-10 school year at their June 25, 2009 meeting. The $99,997,098 budget contains an increase of .49 mills which represents a 2.0% increase over the 2008-09 rate. The new millage rate is 24.95 mills.
An average taxpayer's home assessed at $150,000 will pay an increase of $73.50. However, the Act 1 homestead/farmstead property tax reduction of $190.72 will yield a net decrease of $117.22.
Local revenues make up 76.9% of all sources for the approved budget. The remaining sources of the budget include 21.9% from the State and less than 1.2% from Federal sources.
The Souderton Area Board of School Directors also approved the use of $2,216,692 of existing Fund Balance to help reduce the millage impact.
"The budget will allow the district to maintain current academic programs and services," reported Dr. Charles D. Amuso, superintendent of schools. The budget reflects the retirements of 12 professional staff members and an increase of 7 professional staff members.
