New High School > Project History > Public Bid Opening, March 2006
SASD held a pre-bid meeting for potential contractors on March 2, 2006. Project architect, Robert Breslin, led a review of the site plan and building design, followed by a description of the construction phasing plan by the project’s construction management firm, D’Huy Engineering Inc. Nearly 40 people, representing numerous regional contractors, attended the 90-minute meeting. The meeting was held to assist companies that will be preparing bids to become one of the project’s eight prime contractors. The prime contracts for the project are: general contractor, electrical, HVAC, plumbing, data and communications, fire suppression, food service and natatorium.
A public bid opening was held on March 22, 2006 at the District Administration Offices. School construction projects require school districts to accept the price of the lowest responsible bidder. It will take approximately three weeks to review the bids in detail, select among over 70 alternates contained in the bid documents, and establish the project’s total cost.
The Souderton Area School District Board of School Directors will review and discuss the bids at a special meeting of its Operations Committee on April 4, 2006. at 6:30p.m. The board will award construction contracts at its regularly scheduled meeting on April 11th.
In the meantime, the SASD has begun preparing for a late spring or early summer ground
breaking ceremony on the site of the new school, with construction
activity commencing shortly thereafter.
