Construction Moving Forward on Schedule!
The construction phase of the new Souderton Area High School project is moving forward on schedule. Because of cooperative weather and favorable conditions on the site, Phase Three of the project is due for completion on October 12, 2006. Phase Three activities included:
- Installing underground storm and sanitary piping
- Installing the underground main power duct bank
- Extending the Main Drive roadway around future parking lots
- Erecting structural steel for the future classroom wings and library
- Pouring roof decks for the future classroom wings and library
- Extending footers and foundation for the other parts of the building
- Installing landscape plantings and developing natural buffers
- Earth moving for the areas that will become the stadium and athletic fields
Mr. Warren Gerricke, Project Manager from D'Huy Engineering Inc., has made regular monthly presentations to the Operations Committee of the Souderton Area School District Board of School Directors describing the strong progress on the construction site. Phase Four of construction, lasting approximately 270 days, will take place in the Fall through the Spring and involve:
- Final grading and respreading of topsoil on the site
- Complete all building foundations and erection of all structural steel
- Commence steel stud exterior and masonry enclosure of the high school building
- Demolish the existing, dilapidated barn on the site
- Install sanitary, sewer, water, gas, electric, and telecommunication utilities
- Install curbing and the secondary entrance/drive to the site
- Commence the construction of the grandstands, running track, and tennis courts
