Construction Celebrates First Year Anniversary
Happy Summer 2007! The SASD officially broke ground on the new high school construction on June 1, 2006. One year later, construction is on schedule and the 455,000 square foot building has largely taken its shape. Although still two years away from move-in condition, the new high school now has all of its building foundations and structural steel completed. Much of the building's exterior brick veneer is completed, and the building will be entirely under roof by the end of July. Many of the windows have already been installed, as have most of the school's roof-top mechanical units. Ceramic corridor wall tile is being installed, as are stair tower hand railings. Dry walling and painting has begun in many of the classroom wing's laboratories and classrooms. Classroom ceiling grid systems are also being installed. Congratulations to the project's construction managers and contractors for making Year One a success.

Currently on the Site
With a current daily manpower level of 190 workers on site, work is currently being completed both on the school building and on the future athletic fields. Footing, foundation and retaining wall installation has been completed for the future stadium. The stadium's field area has been brought up to sub-grade. Soil removal and grading has taken place in the pool area, with construction of the pool scheduled to start in late June. Underdrain systems have been installed for two future multi-purpose athletic fields. Tennis court retaining walls are under construction.

Road Reconstruction
The major realignment of Lower Road (the road that will serve the school's main entrance), will begin on June 18th. Traffic signage will detour vehicles from Lower Road via Forman Road and Schoolhouse Road. This phase of road reconstruction work will continue until the end of July, weather permitting.

Get Monthly Reports
The New High School Project is a standing item on the agenda of the Operations Committee of the Board of School Directors. These meetings contain regular construction updates by the Construction Manager and are open to the public.
