ESL: Enrollment and Identification of English Language Learners

ESL instruction is designed to meet each ELL’s individual needs based on the results of the Home Language Survey and assessments in listening, speaking, reading, and writing. The Home Language Survey is completed by/for every family upon registering in the school district. If the Home Language Survey indicates that the student’s primary language is other than English and a language other than English is spoken in the student’s home, the following procedures will be followed:

• The district Registrar will notify the ESL program staff and building secretary at the student’s school of the date the student will begin school and forward the copy of the Home Language Survey and the Registration Form to the ESL staff there. The school principal and the ESL staff will initiate assessment.
