Food Services > Free and Reduced Price Meals
The SASD participates in the federal program that allows students to apply for free or reduced price lunches. All meals served must meet patterns established by the U.S. Department of Agriculture.
If you get food stamps or TANF for your children, your children can get free meals. If your household income is the same or less than the amounts on the income chart to the right, your children can get free meals or reduced price meals. A foster child may get free meals or reduced price meals. The reduced price lunch is 40 cents while reduced price breakfast can be purchased for 30 cents.
To get a free or reduced price meal for your children, you must complete an application and return it to school. Applications will be sent home the beginning of the school year. Applications that are not complete cannot be approved. Please complete the application, sign it and return it to school. Additional copies are available at all schools.
For more information, please contact Jane Natali, Supervisor of Food Services, via e-mail jnatali@soudertonsd.org or telephone at 215-723-6061.

How to Apply
Download a PDF of the Free & Reduced Price Meals Application (PDF with instructions)
If you now get food stamps of TANF for the children you are applying for, the application must have the children’s names, a food stamp or TANF case number for each child, and the signature of an adult household member. If you are applying for a foster child a separate application must have the child’s name, the child’s “personal use” income, and an adult signature. If you do not list a food stamp or TANF case number for all the children you are applying for, then the application must have the children’s names, the names of all household members, the amount of income each person got last month and where it came from, the signature of an adult household member and the adult’s social security number or the word “none” if the adult does not have a social security number.

Reporting Changes
If your children get free or reduced price meals because of your income, you must tell the school if your household size decreases or when your household income increases by $50 or more per month ($600 per year). If your children get meals because they get food stamps or TANF you must tell the school when you are not receiving these.
|
Confidentiality
School officials use the information on the application only to decide if your children should get free or reduced price meals.
|
Re-application
You may apply for meals anytime during the school year. If you are not eligible now, but have a change, like a decrease in household income or an increase in household size, become unemployed or get food stamps or TANF for your children, complete an application then.
In the operation of the child-feeding program, no child will be discriminated against because of race, sex, color, national origin, age or disability. If you believe you have been discriminated against, write immediately to the Secretary of Agriculture, Washington DC 20250.
