Each school in the district has the services of a school psychologist to assist teachers, students and parents. Regular meetings are scheduled with school personnel (principal, guidance counselor, teacher, reading specialist, nurse, etc.) to review any student who is experiencing school difficulty. The school psychologist participates in these Instructional Support Team meetings to help develop plans to correct learning behavioral, emotional or other problems in cooperation with team members.
When psychological testing is recommended by the school team, this is performed by the school psychologist, with parent permission. Testing may be recommended in order to decide if a child needs changes in his/her educational program.
The secondary schools also have a school psychologist on the Student Support Team to assist students with drug/alcohol problems or other serious mental health concerns.
