Faculty Roles and Responsibilities
Advisor
Accounting:
The advisor meets with a mixed grade level group during specially scheduled periods four times during the school year to count and check in portfolio projects.
- A checklist will be kept inside of the portfolio for this purpose.
- The advisor stores portfolios in a safe and secure place.
- The advisor maintains a computer record of each student's portfolio progress and completion.
- The advisor forwards completed portfolios to the Graduation Project Coordinator in May of the junior year. Letters of intent will be collected in April through English classes.
Reporting: Advisors will report student progress toward portfolio completion using a comment code on the report card (āSā or āUā). Each student is expected to place one project from each major subject, a technology project and an elective in the portfolio by spring of junior year. This is a total of 6 projects. The following guidelines may be helpful:
Satisfactory Progress = At least 1 project by the end of first semester of sophomore year, three projects by the end of sophomore year, four projects by the end of first semester of junior year, and a total of six by May of junior year
Unsatisfactory Progress = No project by the end of first semester of sophomore year, fewer than three projects by the end of sophomore year, fewer than four projects by the end of the first semester of junior year, and a total fewer than six by May of junior year.
Mentor
A faculty member or any community member may volunteer to assist any student. There is no compensation for mentoring other than the student's success!
Evaluator
- Content area teachers will evaluate individual course projects to be placed in portfolios using the Graduation Project/Portfolio Criteria. See appendix B for form.
- The Graduation Project Coordinator will evaluate portfolios, letters of intent, and culminating projects in the written and research components.
- The entire staff will be asked to participate in evaluating content and presentation of culminating projects as scheduled by the Graduation Project Coordinator. See appendix C for sample forms.
