Graduation Project Culminating Project
The culminating project is a project reflecting the student’s unique interest or area of expertise. The showcase piece may be taken from work in the portfolio or, upon approval by the Graduation Project Coordinator, it may be a new undertaking. The project must contain research, problem solving, display, or demonstration that extends course knowledge. It demonstrates student strength as a self-directed, life long learner.
A panel of high school staff members will evaluate culminating projects during a scheduled in-service day. The Graduation Project Coordinator will arrange a Culminating Project presentation schedule. Evaluation and presentation will occur by the first semester of the senior year. The Culminating Project must contain independent research, a written component, and a presentation. The Graduation Project Coordinator will score the research and written component using rubrics on page 9. Culminating Project presentations will be scored using the rubrics on Page 18 (Appendix C) and 19 (Appendix D).
The Graduation Project Coordinator will meet with candidates beginning in spring of the junior year. A Graduation Project Coordinator will be available to assist students through the summer and up to the time of presentation in fall. Students may also elect outside mentors or work with support from other extended learning resources.
