Course selection for the 2012-2013 school year will begin next week for students in grades 9-11. The high school counselors will be meeting with all 9-10th graders in their English classes and 11th grade students in their Social Studies classes. All students who have English 9/10 or Global Studies during S1 will meet with their counselors starting on Monday January 9th. Students who have English 9/10 or Global Studies during S2, or AP Social Studies, will meet with their counselors starting the week of January 30th. Students who have S1 English/Global Studies will receive their course selection sheets in their classes this week. Students who have S2 English/Global Studies/AP Social Studies will receive their course selection sheets during the first week of S2. Since students’ schedules are not run until ALL students have met with their counselors, there is no advantage/disadvantage to students meeting with their counselors in S1 or S2 classes.
Due to the amount of time necessary to meet individually with all 9-11th graders, counselors cannot make individual parent appointments to discuss students’ course selection/scheduling until late February; after all individual student meetings. Students will receive their tentative schedules in mid-May and will have ten (10) school days to make any changes/adjustments to their schedules. Ten school days after schedules are distributed to students in May, all schedules will be considered final and no changes will be allowed. Since the high school’s master schedule is built based upon students’ requests, it is very important that students make good course selection choices. Please plan to discuss your child’s course selection choices prior to your child’s meeting with his/her counselor.
