Frequently Asked Questions Regarding Coronavirus School Closure

Will we have to make up the missed days of school? 
No. The Department of Education has notified school districts that it is relaxing the rules requiring 180 days of school for students.  

How long will schools be closed? 
The earliest schools would reopen is Tuesday, April 14, 2020.  

Where can I get answers about how Pennsylvania is handling school closures?

When school reopens, will activities and athletics resume?  
SASD will follow guidance from the Department of Health in determining whether to resume all activities when schools reopen.  

If spring activities and athletics are canceled, will the activity fee I paid be refunded? 
Yes. If these are canceled, families would be reimbursed once a cancellation has been announced.

Will students receive new instruction? 
Yes. New instruction begins via Schoology on the following dates:
- High School: Monday, March 30
- Middle School: Tuesday, March 31
- Elementary School: Wednesday, April 1

When will 2nd trimester elementary progress reports be distributed? 
Second trimester elementary progress reports will be available on Home Access Center at 7:00p.m. on Tuesday, April 7, 2020.  

What if I have questions about at home learning?

What if a family does not have Internet access to the at home learning activities? 
In order to assist students with At Home Learning, the District has identified resources for home Internet service.  Comcast's Internet Essentials program provides home Internet Access to qualifying families at a discounted price.  Please visit the Discount Internet Program Web page for more information.

Will SAT and Advanced Placement exams be canceled?  
Please visit the College Board Web site for guidance on these exams.

What if I have technology problems while my child(ren) is home during the school closure?

How may I clean my district-issued computer? 

  • Power off the device 
  • Use bleach-free disinfectant wipes or a solution of 40 percent of rubbing alcohol and 60 percent distilled water to wipe down all device surfaces. Do not spray the device; spray cleaner onto a cloth and wipe down surfaces.  
  • Allow the device to dry  
  • Use a microfiber cloth to clean the screen
