How long will schools be closed?

On April 9, 2020, Governor Wolf ordered all schools to remain closed through the end of the 2019-2020 academic year. Schools will not reopen this school year.

Will we have to make up the missed days of school?

No. The Department of Education has notified school districts that it is relaxing the rules requiring 180 days of school for students.

Are the At Home Learning lessons and activities mandatory?

Students are expected to participate in lessons and complete assignments from their teachers. Understanding the challenges that families are facing during the closure, teachers will review and provide feedback on submitted work with a high degree of flexibility and leniency. Students will not be penalized for school work they are unable to complete.


Will student work be graded for secondary students?

Yes. Teachers will review student work and post grades in Home Access Center as they have throughout the school year. However, grades for student work completed during the closure will be weighted less than work completed while schools were open and a pass/fail grading procedure will be utilized for courses that had not started prior to the closure. There will be no final exams.


When will 3rd trimester elementary progress reports be distributed?

Third trimester elementary progress reports will not be distributed this school year. Instead, each elementary student will receive direct communication from his or her teacher at the end of the school year in June to provide a summary of the student’s progress and bring closure to a challenging school year.


When will 3rd Marking Period report cards be distributed for secondary students?

The third marking period ended on April 7, 2020. Report cards will be available in Home Access Center by April 28, 2020.


When will 4th Marking Period report cards be distributed for secondary students?

Digital report cards will be issued at the end of the school year via Home Access Center.


What about graduation?

A commencement ceremony is an important milestone for our graduating seniors. At this time, Souderton Area High School is moving forward with plans to have a virtual graduation, a "Farewell (car) Tour" scheduled for Saturday, May 30th, and in-person ceremony (if permitted).  Use the following link for the latest update on graduation.


Will I be able to pick up my student’s personal belongings from school?

Procedures for retrieving students’ belongings have been developed. Pickups will take place throughout the month of May, starting with elementary schools during the week of May 4. As pickups become available, the District will follow the Centers for Disease Control guidelines for ensuring the safety of families and staff members.


How can I register my child for Kindergarten next year?

What about activities and athletics?

All extracurricular activities and athletics have been canceled for the remainder of the school year. This includes all spring sports, musicals and performances, and senior prom. District schools have begun planning alternative ways to celebrate other traditional end-of-year activities.


Now that spring activities and athletics are canceled, will the activity fee I paid be refunded?

Yes. Refunds will be processed and sent to families by the end of April 2020.


Will Extended School Year still be offered this summer for special education students?

Because it is not expected that Montgomery County will be in the “Green Phase” of the Governor’s reopening plan, in-school instruction will likely not be permitted this summer. Accordingly, the District will offer its Extended School Year Program in a virtual format this summer.



What about summer day camp programs and summer sports camps?

All summer camp programs and drivers’ education classes have been canceled for the summer of 2020.


What if my district-issued device is not working?

Procedures have been developed for families to return inoperable devices for repair and to receive needed charging cords. Families with device issues or needing charging cords should e-mail AtHomeLearning@soudertonsd.org. The District will follow CDC guidelines for ensuring the safety of families and staff members when devices are exchanged.

What if a family does not have Internet access to the at home learning activities?

In order to assist students with At Home Learning, the District has identified resources for home Internet service.  Comcast's Internet Essentials program provides home Internet Access to qualifying families at a discounted price.  Please visit the Discount Internet Program Web page for more information.


Will SAT and Advanced Placement exams be canceled?

What if I have password or other technology problems while my child(ren) is home during the school closure?
