Superintendent's Corner: August 2022

Superintendent's Corner

August 25, 2022

We are just days away from opening our doors for the 2022-2023 school year! I am excited that this year will mark the beginning of our Full-Day Kindergarten program as we welcome the Class of 2035.  It has been a goal to expand our program for many years and, working collaboratively with the community, School Board, teachers, and administrators, we were able to make it happen.  Kindergarten at Souderton will continue to focus on developmentally appropriate practices to support the growth of the whole child with an emphasis on the importance of purposeful play.

We are very pleased to share many updates from the summer, as well as for the new year.

Comprehensive Plan
Our Comprehensive Plan 2022-2025 will guide our focus for the next 3 years with priorities set on the importance of:

  • Cultivating belonging
  • Strengthening mental health support and services
  • Providing strong education for all, giving priority to:
    • Academic growth and achievement
    • Expanding opportunities

Summer Work
The amount of work accomplished this summer across the district is overwhelming. Our teachers have been writing and revising curriculum, planning lessons, and supporting students as well as serving in the community - with book blasts, the Big Red Picnic, SACE Summer Adventure, and athletic camps. Our staff has been getting offices and schools ready to welcome students to clean, safe, and organized learning environments. Our technology department has been working diligently to ensure that all devices are ready to support learning while connected to a strong and secure network, as well as launching a redesign of the district Web site.  It is our hope that visitors will more easily find important need-to-know information and enjoy a welcoming, dynamic experience while navigating the district and school sites from any device.

Renovation Projects
We have several renovation projects that started this summer; projects that will endure for years to come. A full renovation has begun at Indian Valley Middle School adding classroom space, updating the auditorium and gymnasium, as well as a new addition to the front of the building. Franconia Elementary School will also see improvement of its indoor spaces, updating of its HVAC and plumbing systems, as well as a new roof. The improvements to this historic building will help better support educating another generation of students.

SASD Nation
Our school district has a long history of providing quality education and I remain proud to be a part of it. If you haven’t done so already, consider joining us at SASD Nation - www.sasdnation.org. The Indian Valley Education Foundation has jump-started this effort in conjunction with the Souderton Area Alumni Association to be inclusive of Souderton Area alumni, parents, grandparents, and friends too!

The week ahead will be the beginning of what I think is going to be a great year! I am excited to be back in the buildings as we continue working together to support the whole child! Thank you for your contribution to our community and I look forward to seeing you soon.

Sincerely,

Frank T. Gallagher, Ed.D.
