Education Overview: Elementary

Souderton Area School District's elementary curriculum builds whole-child foundational knowledge and skills in the areas of English/Language Arts, Mathematics, Science, and Social Studies. In addition to core subjects, students participate in Art, Library, Music, Technology, Wellness and Social-Emotional learning.

In SAOA, Souderton Area School District teachers present the elementary grade level content on a daily basis with support provided by the parent or guardian at home. The level of at-home support needed will vary based on age and skill level of the student, but some support is necessary to help the child succeed in the online environment.

At the start of the year, the teacher reviews the grade level schedule, establishes the routines, and reviews expectations to foster an online community of learners. The school day is a blend of live and recorded instruction along with time for independent practice and teacher check-in.

The District will provide a Free and Appropriate Public Education (“FAPE”) to every student with an IEP this year, whether that is in a virtual setting or in our bricks and mortar school. IEP meetings will be held for special education students who choose the virtual setting. The IEP Team will determine what supports a student needs in the virtual setting and how those supports will be delivered.

As part of Souderton Area School District's one-to-one program, all elementary students are provided a device.
