All children from the age of six (6) through the age of eighteen (18) must comply with compulsory school attendance requirements. To meet these requirements, parents must ensure that their child between the ages of 6 and 18 is attending or participating in one of the following: a public elementary, middle, or high school; a public charter or cyber-charter school; a private licensed academic or private religious school; home tutoring by a certified teacher; or an approved program of home schooling.

Children may be excused from compulsory attendance for documented medical or other compelling reasons as outlined in District attendance policy and procedures.

Souderton Area School District Board Policy currently states a child must be 5.0 years of age on or before August 31.

Yes. A parent or guardian must complete a registration packet and provide all required documents for each new student entering the district together with proof of residency.

After the Registration Office completes the registration, the registration packet is sent to the school where your child will attend. The school will review the information and determine a schedule/teacher assignment and request records from the prior school. This usually takes between one and three days (for students being registered after the first day of the school year). The school will contact you directly with an official start date.

Yes. The registration packet must be completed again and all required registration documents must be provided, including current proof of residency.

No. Placement is based on your address of residence and the attendance boundaries of Souderton Area School District.

Kindergarten is full-day, with hours coinciding with those of SASD’s for elementary schools - 8:45 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

Souderton Area School District does not have a registration deadline and will enroll all students who reside within the district boundary and meet the registration requirements. We highly recommend you complete registration as soon as possible after you establish residency in the district.

Physical and dental examinations are not required at the time of registration. State mandates require physical and dental exams during the following grade levels:

• Physical examinations are required at original entry (Grade K or 1), Grade 6, and Grade 11.
• Dental Examinations are required at original entry (Grade K or 1), Grade 3, and Grade 7.

After your student is registered, our district will request your child's records from their previous school. We recommend notifying the school from which your child is transferring so they can withdraw your student and prepare to send your student’s records.

Transportation Services arranges transportation for newly enrolled students (current school year) and sends an e-mail with busing details. 

The Special Education Department reviews all special education records provided by the parent and previous school and works with the parent and IEP Team to make a placement determination.

If you are moving within the SASD attendance boundaries and need to change your child’s address, please do the following:

• Notify the Registration Office of your new address.
• You will need to provide proof of residency for your new address.  Once proof of residency is received, Transportation Services will arrange for busing to the new address.

Yes. Please contact your child’s school directly to complete the Withdrawal form. It is extremely important that you complete this form and notify your child’s school of the withdraw.
