Exemptions to the school laws for immunizations are:

  • medical reasons;
  • religious beliefs; and
  • philosophical/strong moral or ethical conviction

If your child is exempt from immunizations, he or she may be removed from school during an outbreak.

Reminder: All students who were born or lived in a foreign country and are entering school for the first time in the United States need to be tested for Tuberculosis before they may attend Souderton Area School District schools.

Kindergarten Immunizations

All children registered in kindergarten must have completed the following immunizations before entry:

  • Tetanus, Diphtheria, Acellular Pertussis* (4 doses with 1 dose administered on or after the fourth birthday)
  • Polio (4 doses (4th dose on or after 4th birthday and at least 6 months after previous dose given))**
  • Measles, Mumps, Rubella (German Measles)*** (2 doses)
  • Hepatitis B (3 doses)
  • Varicella (2 doses (chicken pox) or evidence of immunity)
* Usually given as DTaP or DTP or DT or Td
** A fourth dose is not necessary if the third dose was administered at age 4 years or older and at least 6 months after the previous dose
*** Usually given as MMR
