Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
Please see below for the answers to frequently asked questions about Flexible Instructional Days (FID).
What is a "Flexible Instructional Day?"
- Under a new initiative from the PA Department of Education, the District has received approval to utilize "Flexible Instruction Days" as an alternate approach to delivering instruction in the event of inclement weather.
- An FID can be used instead of a "snow day" in order that teaching and learning continue without interruption and the missed school day does not need to be rescheduled.
How will I know if the District is implementing a Flexible Instructional Day (FID)?
- If a storm is forecasted, school principals will send advance notice of a potential FID so that students and staff can prepare to participate in school from home.
- When the Superintendent declares an FID, all families will receive communication via telephone, text message, and e-mail similar to how school closings and delays are currently announced. The school day will then be conducted virtually for all students.
What are the expectations for students on an FID?
- Students must log in to Schoology between the hours of 7 am and 10 am to report their attendance.
- Students must complete any assignments provided by their teachers and submit within three school days.
- Schoolwork will be primarily asynchronous on an FID. Teachers will be available to students/parents via e-mail for the duration of the school day.
- Families experiencing problems with Internet connectivity must call the school office by 10 am to report the student's attendance and receive instructions for the student's assignments.
Will the District always use an FID if there is a snowstorm?
No. In the event of severe storms or power outages, the Superintendent may determine to fully close all schools.
